Van Houten resigns NXP CEO post, former Agere exec takes seat

Frans van Houten is leaving NXP Semiconductors' president and CEO position and will be replaced with Richard L Clemmer, a former CEO at Agere Systems. The announcement follows on a revised Q4 guidance from the company that forecasts sales could be down as much as 25% quarter over quarter and a reorganization plan that will see 4,500 jobs cut.

Earnings estimates for Intel, IR, others still too high, analysts say

FBR expects a 25% peak-to-trough revenue compression during this downcycle, in part because of component distributors de-stocking inventory. But FBR analysts project a fundamental bottom should form in the first half of 2009 and that distributors will replenish component inventories sometime this summer, providing an industry catalyst in the second half.

Micrel lays off, lowers Q4 estimates

The analog, high-bandwidth communications, and Ethernet IC vendor now projects Q4 revenues will be down 18% to 20%, compared with the company's previous guidance issued in late October of down 7% to 13%.
